: background
The Forest of Dean Street Wardens are working to improve local quality of life in the Forest of Dean by helping to reduce crime and the fear of crime, deter anti-social behaviour, develop community links and improve the local environment. A small team of Wardens are based in Coleford covering the whole of the Forest - a huge area which is predominantly rural. As homes are few and far between, spreading the word that the Wardens are here to help is a difficult task.

: solution

LeafletBarbryn spent went out and about with the Street Wardens to fully understand the area they cover and the issues they tackle.

To raise awareness of the Wardens, a suite of literature was created including a general leaflet, a feedback card and a regular newsletter.

The easy-to-read leaflet was distributed to all community venues. It introduced the team, outlines what they do and how residents can get in touch.

Calling CardThe feedback card was designed to be left with residents once a Warden had helped them with a problem. The comments gained from these were used by Barbryn to create case studies for the newsletters.

One of the problems the Wardens faced was that if they visited a resident who turned out not to be in, the resident was unaware of the visit. As the area covered by the Wardens is so big, it could be a while before a repeat visit is made. Barbryn, therefore, designed a simple calling card which could be put through residents’ letterboxes with the contact details of the Wardens.

:achievements
The Street Wardens have seen more and more residents across the Forest calling to report issues in their area which need tackling. Awareness of the team has certainly increased and the positive comments received through the feedback cards are helping them to secure further funding to maintain the Wardens.
