Agewell was established to look at the current and future needs of older people throughout Sandwell in the West Midlands. It aims to influence policy and shape service delivery by working in partnership with local organisations and local older people. Healthy living is one of the top priorities for older people and Agewell asked Barbryn to develop a creative idea which would encourage people aged over 50 to become fitter and healthier.

Healthy Passport West Bromwich Barbryn developed the Healthy Passport scheme which was initially launched for older people living in Wednesbury. The local Older People’s Champion signed up residents to take part in healthy activities and earn points towards prizes.

Each participant was given their own ‘passport’ to get stamped when they undertook activities to improve their health and wellbeing such as stopping smoking, eating healthily, getting a flu vaccination and joining in fitness activities. When residents reached set targets, they could claim a reward such as a free meal or a pair of non-slip slippers.

The Healthy Passport proved such a hit with older people in Wednesbury that it was rolled out to residents in West Bromwich and Greets Green. More than 110 older people signed up in Greets Green alone within a few months and more are still joining the scheme. Grandmother, Ruby Francis said: "I think it's a marvellous idea! I'm going to carry on and see how many points I can get. It's great to feel I’ve achieved something!"
